Imagine earning college credits while still in high school! Broken Arrow Public Schools' Early College Academy offers 8th grade students an incredible opportunity to jumpstart their academic journey. Parents and students are invited to learn more about ECA during informational sessions on:
Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m.
Both sessions will take place on the second floor of the administration building at Northeastern State University in Broken Arrow, 3100 New Orleans Street.
Why Choose Early College Academy?
ECA allows students to take high school courses on the Northeastern State University-Broken Arrow campus while preparing for college-level coursework. By the end of 10th grade, students are equipped to successfully undertake college classes.
Key Benefits of ECA:
Access to university labs, libraries, and support services
Smaller learning environments and peer/study groups
Improved college readiness and grades
Easier transition after high school
Potential savings on college costs
Increased opportunities for first-generation college students
According to Dr. Sharon James, executive director of education programming for Broken Arrow Public Schools, “Early College Academy was made possible by our partnerships with Northeastern State University and Tulsa Community College. This program truly increases college readiness and provides students access to university-level resources.”
Research supports these benefits. Data from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center shows that high school students who spend time in postsecondary classrooms are more likely to attend college and persist in their studies. Programs like ECA also align with the "Power of 15" initiative, which highlights the importance of earning at least 15 college credits in high school to boost college success rates.
How to Apply:
The online application is now open to current 8th-grade students. Students involved in athletics or fine arts can still meet their extracurricular requirements while participating in ECA. Watch overview video of ECA.
